What is worth knowing about Emirates
Emirates is the one carrier on this site with no separate personal item in Economy at all: the allowance is a single cabin piece of 55 x 38 x 22 cm at 7 kg, and it is the weight that stops people, not the size. Premium cabins differ. The hold runs on two different systems depending on where you are flying — a weight concept on most routes, 23 kg pieces to and from the Americas and Africa — with every piece capped at 150 cm total and nothing over 32 kg.
Two limits Emirates does not set
The sizes above are the ones Emirates publishes. These are not, and they do not change when you switch carriers: liquids in the cabin — at a US checkpoint every liquid, aerosol, gel, cream and paste must be 3.4 oz (100 ml) or less and fit one quart-sized bag (TSA — Liquids, Aerosols and Gels Rule); and power banks and spare lithium batteries, which must be carried in the cabin only, never in a checked bag, with an ordinary rechargeable cell capped at 100 watt-hours (FAA PackSafe — Lithium Batteries). The FAA states that airlines may set stricter watt-hour and quantity limits than its own, so Emirates can be tighter than this and never looser.
