Can you bring knitting needles, crochet hooks & sewing needles on a plane?

TSA's official answer, checked against tsa.gov on 2026-07-02.

Carry-on bag yes

Knitting needles, crochet hooks, sewing needles and pins are all allowed in carry-on — a famously persistent myth says otherwise. Circular thread cutters and any bladed notions must be checked; scissors under 4 inches (from pivot) are fine.

Checked bag yes

Allowed — sheathe or wrap sharp points.

Liquids, gels and aerosols in carry-on follow the TSA 3-1-1 rule. The final decision always rests with the TSA officer at the checkpoint.
