Can you bring car seats on a plane?

Carry-on bag yes
Allowed in carry-on — TSA itself sets no restriction. Its one piece of advice is to check with your airline that the seat will fit in the overhead bin or under the seat.
Checked bag yes
Allowed in checked bags — the usual choice, since a car seat rarely fits a cabin bin.
At the checkpoint the seat goes through the X-ray, and TSA asks you to take your child out of it and carry them through the metal detector in your arms. A seat too big for the machine gets a visual and physical inspection instead (tsa.gov/travel/tsa-cares/traveling-children).
Liquids, gels and aerosols in carry-on follow the TSA 3-1-1 rule. The final decision always rests with the TSA officer at the checkpoint.
