Two flight rules this list runs into
- Sunscreen and insect repellent are liquids at the checkpoint, spray or lotion alike: 3.4 oz (100 ml) or less per container in the cabin, and every container together in one quart-sized bag. The full-size bottle goes in a checked bag or gets bought on arrival. (source · checked 2026-09-06)
- The checked-bag ceiling for aerosol sunscreen is the FAA's, not TSA's, and it is a total: no single toiletry container over 500 ml (17 fl oz) or 0.5 kg (18 oz), and no more than 2 L (68 fl oz) or 2 kg (70 oz) per passenger once every can and bottle in the bag is added together. Common questions
Can you bring full-size sunscreen in a carry-on?
No — sunscreen counts as a liquid/aerosol, so carry-on bottles must be 3.4 oz (100 ml) or less. Full-size bottles go in checked bags (within FAA toiletry limits). Verified against tsa.gov — see our sunscreen page for the exact rule.
Is spray sunscreen allowed on a plane?
Yes, with the same limits: 3.4 oz or less in carry-on, larger cans in checked bags within FAA aerosol limits (nozzle capped).
How do I keep sand out of everything?
Mesh bag for gear, a zip bag for electronics, and shake towels out BEFORE they go back in the bag. Sand that reaches your suitcase goes home with you. (Tip, not a rule.)
